Fresh Direct Case Study
Nature of business:
Fresh Direct is one of the leading suppliers of fresh and prepared food to the foodservice industry in the UK.
Fresh Direct utilises its fleet of 200 refrigerated vehicles to distribute its product range to clients across the country. The distribution operation runs every day of the week, working out of Fresh Direct’s six UK sites.
Problems faced by the client:
Fresh Direct had secured a large contract to deliver fruit to schools on a national basis. Consequently, it needed 3.5 tonne vans with good payload and generous carrying capacity.
We were asked to look at numerous manufacturers of 3.5 tonne product and we came up with what we considered to be the most appropriate solution based on volume of carrying capacity and payload.
A number of Renault Master 3.5 tonne panel vans were converted by us for chilled operation. These single compartment, insulated vans were designed to carry palletised goods.
What challenges, if any, did we have to overcome?
The most challenging element of this particular build was weight.
In addition to selecting the Renault product over other brands, we also successfully designed a special lightweight panel kit to increase payload.
The Coolertech conversion provided Fresh Direct with the perfect van for its multi-drop delivery operation.
This fleet of 40 plus Renault vehicles successfully represents a national contract of some importance to our client where each van is required to carry a large volume of heavy products to a high number of individual drops each day.
