Fresh Direct Case Study
Nature of business:
Fresh Direct is one of the leading suppliers of fresh and prepared food to the foodservice industry in the UK.
Fresh Direct currently runs a fleet of 14 tonne and 18 tonne multi-drop distribution vehicles for its UK operation. The company was keen to expand its client base by offering the same high quality service to businesses in smaller towns, villages and rural areas.
Problems faced by the client:
Access to these areas utilising its fleet of HGVs.
Multi-drop delivery of its fresh and prepared foods to businesses in towns and villages where there are access issues and restrictions for large vehicles.
A fleet of 3.5 tonne Fiat Ducato vans was designed and converted by Coolertech.
Each single compartment van operates to chilled temperature via the use of a Carrier Xarios 350 refrigeration unit. This works perfectly with Fresh Direct, as, like all other fridges on its temperature-controlled fleet of vehicles, it will be under maintenance with Carrier.
What challenges, if any, did we have to overcome?
Payload – Excellent payload is a big requirement for fruit and vegetable distribution of palletised goods. Coolertech was able to produce a lightweight conversion utilising its innovative insulated sleeve kit – designed specifically around the Fiat lightweight van. We also introduced to the load compartment some raised aluminium strips to enable pallets to be moved simply towards the doors for swift and easy deliveries.
Excellent payload, satisfying our client’s needs, and superb temperature control.
